In-Stride Amputee Rehabilitation Program

Amputee mentor and patient Bob Siebert talks with Jennifer Page, MD, Medical Director of the Acute Rehabilitation Unit. Siebert regularly meets with new amputees as part of St. Anthony’s In Stride clinic.
In-Stride is a program at St. Anthony’s Medical Center for amputees. If focuses on:
- Selection of prosthetic services
- Multidisciplinary follow-up, and
- A support system for amputees
Prosthetic Selection
Amputees are provided with the information and assistance needed to make an informed decision regarding which prosthetic company will best meets their needs.
Multidisciplinary Follow-up
The rehabilitation physician, prosthetist and therapist examine amputees together to assess for prosthesis readiness and check progress. Patients also may receive other services from a social worker, dietitian, diabetic educator, skin/wound nurse, recreation therapist or psychologist. This provides a convenient, comprehensive “one-stop” approach to medical care.
Support System
Often the best support is found in shared experiences. Volunteer mentors are available to visit with patients during their stay at St. Anthony’s Medical Center and after discharge. Patients are paired with a mentor who shares similar amputation/rehabilitation experiences and general interests. This frequently lasting and mutually beneficial relationship provides helpful information and support during the rehabilitation process.
